Japan's Exports Decline Less Than Expected

Japan's August exports fell by a smaller-than-expected 0.1% year-on-year, marking the fourth consecutive month of decline. However, shipments to Asia rebounded by 1.7%, while exports to Western Europe surged 7.7%. This positive trend was partially offset by a significant 13.8% drop in exports to the U.S., particularly in automobiles. Despite the softer-than-anticipated decline, economists remain cautious, citing weakening new export orders and predicting a 0.7% fall in outbound shipments in 2026.
