A record 37 US lawmakers, 10 Senators and 27 House members, won't seek reelection in 2026. More Republicans (27) than Democrats (10) are leaving. Reasons include retirement, pursuit of other offices (governorship, Senate seats, attorney general), and potential challenges from redistricting, particularly impacting Texas Democrats. The high number reflects a combination of factors including age, internal party dynamics, and upcoming election challenges.
