The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has requested the use of Naval Station Great Lakes in Illinois as a staging area for immigration roundups in Chicago. Approximately 250 federal agents and 140 vehicles will utilize the base for 30 days. This follows a similar, controversial operation in Southern California earlier this year. The DHS statement indicates a commitment to targeting undocumented immigrants nationwide. The Pentagon has yet to comment on the request.
