Indonesian leader pledges to revoke lawmakers' perks after protests leave 6 dead

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto responded to nationwide protests, sparked by lawmakers' $3,000 housing allowance, by pledging to revoke these perks and suspend overseas trips for parliament members. Six deaths resulted from the protests, including a ride-hailing driver allegedly run over by police. Subianto, after meeting with religious and political leaders, emphasized the government's commitment to freedom of expression while condemning violent acts. He called for peaceful protests and assured the public that their concerns will be addressed.
