Two dead after getting flesh-eating bacteria from eating raw oysters

Two people died in Louisiana after eating raw oysters contaminated with Vibrio vulnificus, a flesh-eating bacteria common in warm coastal waters. This bacteria can cause serious illness, requiring intensive care or amputation, with a 20% fatality rate. Louisiana has seen a significant increase in Vibrio vulnificus cases and deaths this year compared to the previous decade, with 22 hospitalizations reported. Two additional unrelated deaths from the bacteria have also occurred. Florida has also reported a concerning number of cases and fatalities.
