Ukraine's recent intensified attacks on Russia's energy sector have significantly damaged its oil refining capacity, impacting approximately 17% of its total output (1.1 million barrels daily). These strikes, targeting refineries, oil depots, and military sites, disrupt Russia's oil processing and export capabilities, causing shortages in several regions, including Crimea. The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) and Military Intelligence (HUR) have claimed responsibility for some of the attacks, aiming to reduce Russia's war funding by targeting its oil and gas trade. The attacks coincide with increased domestic demand for gasoline in Russia, exacerbating existing shortages and leading to long lines at gas stations and rationing.
