A 63-year-old American tourist suffered severe injuries in a shark attack while spearfishing in the Bahamas. The incident occurred near Big Grand Cay on Abaco Island. The victim was airlifted to the US for treatment. While the Bahamas has a relatively high rate of shark attacks globally, they remain statistically rare, with only 34 confirmed attacks in 400 years. Recent months have seen several other shark-related incidents in the Bahamas, including injuries to other tourists and a fatality.
