Iowa Democratic Rep. J.D. Scholten withdrew from the 2026 Senate race, endorsing fellow Rep. Josh Turek. Turek joins a crowded primary aiming to challenge Republican Sen. Joni Ernst, who hasn't yet announced her reelection bid but is actively fundraising and faces GOP primary opponents. Ernst's campaign is underway, despite some internal Republican challenges and recent criticism. Democrats are using a controversial quote by Ernst regarding Medicaid cuts to their advantage.
