Lebanon Rejects Iranian Backing, Aims to Disarm Hezbollah

Lebanese President Aoun rejected foreign interference, particularly Iranian support for Hezbollah, stating that no group can bear arms or rely on foreign backing. This follows the Lebanese cabinet's approval of a US-backed roadmap to disarm Hezbollah, a move Iran opposes. Aoun emphasized Lebanon's sovereignty and called for cooperation with Iran within these limits. Hezbollah's influence has waned since the recent war with Israel, and the Lebanese government, backed by the US, aims to establish a state monopoly on arms by year's end. Iran's Larijani, visiting Beirut, pledged continued support for Lebanon despite the disarmament plan.
