Viral social media posts falsely claimed a "once-in-a-century" solar eclipse would occur over the US on August 2, 2025. However, NASA and the U.S. Naval Observatory have debunked this misinformation. No solar eclipse is visible from North America on that date. The next US-visible total solar eclipse is August 12, 2026, and a partial eclipse will be visible in Maine on August 2, 2027. A partial solar eclipse will occur on September 21, 2025, but it won't be visible in North America.
