Pre-Inca Tombs Unearthed in Lima During Gas Line Expansion

While expanding its natural gas network in Lima, Peru, Cálidda, a gas distribution company, unearthed two pre-Inca Chancay tombs. One tomb contained a 1,000-year-old individual's remains, clay vessels, and pumpkin shell artifacts. Archaeologist José Aliaga identified the remains and artifacts through their unique iconography and colors. This discovery adds to the over 2,200 archaeological finds made during Cálidda's two decades of expansion, highlighting Lima's rich pre-Inca history and the frequent unearthing of ancient remains during construction projects.
