German Zoo Kills Baboons Due to Overcrowding

A German zoo in Nuremberg culled 12 healthy Guinea baboons due to overcrowding, sparking outrage from animal rights activists. Contraceptive methods failed to control the baboon population, exceeding the enclosure's capacity. Seven protestors were arrested after entering the zoo. The zoo defended its actions, stating it was a last resort after years of consideration and in line with EAZA criteria. The baboons were shot, then fed to other zoo predators. Animal rights groups filed a criminal complaint, criticizing the zoo's breeding policies.
