The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalled approximately 5 million above-ground swimming pools linked to nine child deaths. The pools, manufactured by Bestway, Intex, and Polygroup, feature compression straps used as footholds by children, enabling unsupervised access. The recall affects pools 48 inches or taller sold at various retailers between 2007 and 2022. Manufacturers are providing free repair kits to replace the straps with safer alternatives. The recall also extends to Canada, affecting around 266,000 pools.
