Symptoms Of Flesh Eating Bacteria In Florida

Four deaths in Florida this year are attributed to Vibrio vulnificus, a bacteria causing potentially fatal infections. Eleven Floridians have contracted the infection in 2024, compared to 82 cases and 19 deaths in 2023. The bacteria thrive in warm seawater and can be contracted through consuming raw shellfish or open wounds in contaminated water. Symptoms include fever, chills, and potentially necrotizing fasciitis. Early treatment with antibiotics is crucial, and prevention involves avoiding seawater with open wounds and thoroughly cooking shellfish.
