Oscar-winning director Peter Jackson and Colossal Biosciences are partnering to resurrect the extinct giant moa bird of New Zealand. This ambitious project holds both scientific and cultural significance, particularly for the Māori people, who have deep historical ties to the moa. Using advanced genetic engineering techniques, the team aims to reconstruct the moa's genome from subfossil remains. The project involves the Ngāi Tahu Research Centre and seeks to understand ancient ecosystems and reconnect with Māori heritage. Revived moa will be kept in a controlled environment to ensure their survival.
