Superman Film Sparks Debate Over Immigration, American Identity | JQJO

James Gunn's new "Superman" film depicts the hero grappling with his Kryptonian origins and the revelation that his birth parents intended to subjugate humanity. Despite right-wing criticism of the film's perceived 'immigrant-friendly' politics, the movie emphasizes Superman's assimilation and the values instilled by his American upbringing. The debate highlights the ongoing American culture war, contrasting Superman's immigrant status with the current political climate's treatment of immigrants. While some see the film as 'superwoke,' others argue that Superman's immigrant narrative has always been a part of his story, emphasizing his choice to be a hero despite his origins.
