Paris reopens Seine River to public swimming after century-long ban

Parisians and tourists can now swim in the Seine River for the first time in over a century. Three free bathing sites opened this weekend following a €1.4 billion cleanup project, including improved sewage systems and water treatment. Daily water quality tests and lifeguards ensure safety. The initiative, partly inspired by similar European projects, is expected to boost tourism and fulfill a presidential promise. Fourteen additional sites are planned along the Seine and Marne rivers.
