A new study reveals that several human gut bacteria species can absorb and store 'forever chemicals' (PFAS). Researchers found 38 strains capable of absorbing PFAS at various concentrations, with Bacteroides uniformis particularly effective. Experiments showed these bacteria, when introduced to mice, absorbed and excreted PFAS through feces. This discovery suggests potential for probiotic supplements to mitigate the health risks associated with PFAS exposure, a significant concern given the widespread presence of these chemicals.
