Maple Leafs' Mitch Marner dealt to Golden Knights in $96 million sign-and-trade

The Vegas Golden Knights acquired star forward Mitch Marner from the Toronto Maple Leafs in a sign-and-trade deal. Marner signed an eight-year, $12 million per season contract with Vegas, avoiding free agency. In exchange, Toronto received forward Nicolas Roy. Marner, a top scorer with a career-best 102 points last season, leaves Toronto after nine seasons and considerable postseason criticism. The trade fills a key need for Vegas while leaving a significant void in Toronto.
