Minnesota State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband were fatally shot on June 14th. Their beloved golden retriever, Gilbert, was also mortally wounded in the attack and later euthanized. Remarkably, Gilbert's ashes lay in state alongside the Hortmans at the Minnesota Capitol, a unique honor for a pet. Hundreds paid their respects. The accused shooter, Vance Boelter, also targeted other Democratic lawmakers.
