Philadelphia Storm Causes Widespread Power Outages

A powerful thunderstorm hit the Philadelphia region Thursday evening, causing widespread damage and power outages. Winds reached 55 mph, downing trees and power lines, impacting SEPTA infrastructure and leaving 327,000 Peco customers without power. While Peco restored service to over half by 2 p.m., some outages may last into the weekend. SEPTA experienced delays and service disruptions, particularly on the Manayunk/Norristown line. Peco activated its Emergency Operations Center and brought in 1400 contractors to assist with repairs, focusing on areas with the most significant outages, primarily in Montgomery County.
