Streaming Overtakes Broadcast TV for First Time

Streaming surpassed broadcast and cable TV viewing in May for the first time, accounting for 44.8% of total TV viewership in the US, according to Nielsen's Gauge report. This marks a 71% increase in streaming usage since 2021, while broadcast and cable viewership declined by 21% and 39%, respectively. Free streaming services like YouTube and platforms such as PlutoTV, Roku Channel, and Tubi significantly contributed to this growth. Netflix also saw a 27% increase in viewership, with its final season of "You" achieving the highest streaming minutes in May.
