Its almost perfect round shape is unprecedented, defying typical supernova remnant appearances. Scientists are unsure of its distance (2,200 or 7,700 light-years), diameter (14 or 47 light-years), and age (less than 1,000 or more than 10,000 years). The origin is debated; a perfectly symmetrical supernova afterglow is a leading hypothesis, but inconsistencies remain. Future observations with the Square Kilometre Array are anticipated to shed more light on this mysterious celestial body.
