Apple is using AI to improve App Store app discoverability. In iOS 26's developer beta, AI-generated tags, extracted from app screenshots and metadata, categorize apps. While not yet live on the public App Store, this feature, announced at WWDC 25, will eventually let developers manage these tags, which are human-reviewed before launch. This contrasts with earlier speculation that Apple used OCR for this purpose. App ranking is expected to be influenced by this change.
