The White Sox, aiming for a potential trade of Civale later, accepted the deal despite Vaughn's underwhelming performance this season. The Brewers see Vaughn as a potential cheaper replacement for Rhys Hoskins at first base or DH, and possibly a platoon player in the outfield. The Brewers sent cash to the White Sox to offset the salary difference.
