A new study published in PLOS Medicine reveals a link between alcohol consumption, particularly beer and spirits, and an increased risk of pancreatic cancer. Researchers from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) found a 3% increased risk for every 10 grams of daily ethanol intake. The risk was higher for women (12% increase for 15-30 grams) and men (15% for 30-60 grams, 36% for >60 grams). This adds to the Surgeon General's previous advisory linking alcohol to seven other cancers. Experts emphasize that there's no safe level of alcohol consumption regarding cancer risk.
