At least 1.7 million eggs recalled as CDC and FDA investigate multistate salmonella outbreak

The CDC and FDA are investigating a multistate Salmonella outbreak linked to 1.7 million eggs distributed by August Egg Company. The recalled eggs, sold in nine states between February 3 and May 15, have sickened 79 people, hospitalizing 21. The CDC warns the actual number of illnesses is likely much higher. Symptoms include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. Consumers are urged to discard recalled eggs, while businesses should not sell or serve them. August Egg Company is implementing measures to prevent future outbreaks.
