Scientists have confirmed the cause of a nine-day global seismic event in 2023: two massive tsunamis, or seiches, in East Greenland's Dickson Fjord. These 650-foot waves, resulting from climate-change-induced glacier melting and landslides, were detected using the new SWOT satellite's advanced radar technology. The satellite's high-resolution data provided the first direct observation of these seiches, resolving a previous mystery and demonstrating the potential of advanced satellite technology for studying extreme ocean events.
