College Football Playoff Faces Format Showdown | JQJO

The College Football Playoff (CFP) is facing a showdown over its future format. The ACC and Big 12 propose a 16-team playoff with 5 automatic berths for conference champions and 11 at-large bids, while the Big Ten and SEC favor a format awarding more automatic qualifiers to themselves, potentially creating lucrative play-in games. This disagreement stems from differing views on fairness and revenue distribution, with the Big Ten and SEC possessing significant leverage. The CFP's executive committee will meet on June 18th to decide the format, which could also impact the number of conference games played. The decision carries significant implications for the future of college football and its revenue sharing.
