Longhorned ticks, reproducing asexually at a rate of 2,000-2,500 eggs per female, are rapidly spreading across North America. While initial tests in Philadelphia showed no pathogens, further research in Pennsylvania revealed the presence of Lyme disease bacteria and other pathogens like Powassan virus, which transmits much faster than Lyme. Although less likely to spread Lyme disease, the ticks' aggressive nature, wide habitat range, and ability to infect both humans and animals raise public health concerns. Standard tick prevention methods remain effective.
