Oliver Widger, a 29-year-old Oregon man known as "sailing_with_phoenix" on social media, completed a solo sail from Oregon to Hawaii with his cat, Phoenix. His journey, documented for his over 2 million social media followers, was spurred by a Klippel-Feil syndrome diagnosis and dissatisfaction with his job. He quit his job, liquidated his retirement savings, and bought a sailboat. Welcomed in Hawaii by cheering fans and Governor Josh Green, Widger shared his experience, highlighting both the challenges (a rudder failure) and the rewards (seeing whales and dolphins). He plans future voyages, possibly to French Polynesia, after boat repairs.
