A major power outage affected 160,000 homes in Cannes and surrounding areas on Saturday, the final day of the Cannes Film Festival. The outage, starting around 10:00 a.m. local time, was caused by a fire at a substation in Tanneron and the vandalism of an electricity pylon in Villeneuve-Louet. Authorities believe the incidents were criminal acts. Power was gradually restored, and the Cannes Film Festival closing ceremony proceeded as planned using backup generators.
