A new Marine Corps grooming policy targeting those with pseudofolliculitis barbae (PFB), or razor bumps, is facing criticism for disproportionately affecting Black men. The policy, which could lead to expulsion if the condition doesn't improve within a year, is seen by critics as discriminatory and outdated. While the Marines cite warfighting readiness, dermatologists argue PFB doesn't impair this and that the policy is rooted in historical biases. The Air Force also recently updated its PFB policy, requiring waivers to expire after 90 days. This new policy reverses a 2022 policy allowing waivers, sparking concerns about diversity and inclusion within the military.
