False Alarm: Steam Data Leak Not a Security Threat

Read, Watch or Listen

Reports of a massive Steam data leak involving 89 million user records proved unfounded. A dark web group initially claimed a threat actor was selling the data for $5,000, causing widespread alarm. However, Valve, Steam's parent company, confirmed the leaked data consisted of old, unusable two-factor authentication text messages. No Steam account passwords, payment information, or other personal data were compromised. Valve advises users to enable the Steam Mobile Authenticator for enhanced security.
