A Soviet-era spacecraft, Kosmos 482, is expected to return to Earth this weekend after being in orbit for over 50 years. Launched in 1972, it was intended for a Venus mission but failed and remained in Earth's orbit. The half-ton object, roughly the size of a grand piano, will make an uncontrolled re-entry, with its landing location uncertain, somewhere between London and the Falkland Islands. While the probability of it hitting someone is low, the possibility remains due to its size and heat-resistant design, unlike smaller space debris which typically burn up completely on re-entry.
