A new study reveals that many beauty products marketed to Black and Latina women contain formaldehyde and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, known carcinogens. The research, published in Environmental Science & Technology Letters, analyzed 70 women's product usage in Los Angeles, finding 53% used products with these chemicals, frequently daily. Haircare products were most affected (58%), but lotions, shampoos, and even eyelash glue were implicated. Bath & Body Works was identified as a source of several problematic lotions. Researchers call for stronger government regulation and the elimination of these carcinogens from personal care products.
