TeleMessage App Security Flaw Exposes Sensitive Government Data

Read, Watch or Listen

Security researcher Micah Lee uncovered critical flaws in TeleMessage Signal, a communication app used by high-ranking US officials, including former National Security Advisor Mike Waltz. Lee's analysis revealed that the app's archiving feature lacks end-to-end encryption, exposing user messages to TeleMessage and potentially compromising sensitive government communications. A recent hack further exposed this vulnerability, revealing plaintext chat logs, passwords, and encryption keys. Senator Ron Wyden has called for a Department of Justice investigation, citing serious national security risks. TeleMessage's parent company, Smarsh, has paused the service pending investigation.
