The series premiered on Fox in two thousand nine and ran for six seasons until two thousand fifteen. In two thousand ten the show was adapted for a concert tour captured on film. Around the same time the cast overtook The Beatles as the non‑solo act with the most Billboard Hot 100 appearances. A 19‑year‑old college student from London, Ontario, flew to Los Angeles for a seven‑day “looksmaxxing” bootcamp run by internet influencer Braden Peters, known online as Clavicular. The student, William Munro, paid $2,000 for a plane ticket and an additional $5,000 for camp enrollment, all from money earned on odd jobs and online gambling. Munro said he attended to learn how to improve his appearance, a trend that critics say can lead to dangerous practices such as plastic surgery and “bonesmashing.” After the camp, he said he is now seeking a $40,000 facial surgery. The bootcamp was hosted by Peters, who has faced criticism for misogynistic language and ties to Andrew Tate, and was charged with rape in September, charges that were later dropped.

A new attack ad from Republican Vivek Ramaswamy in the Ohio governor’s race featured Amy Acton’s estranged mother, Donna Arthur, calling the candidate a liar. Acton’s campaign and her brother Philip Stearns called the ad a “despicable low.” Arthur said, “It’s not easy for a mother to say this, but Amy was a serious problem. She is a liar; she lies about her past.” Stearns accused Ramaswamy of exploiting the sexual abuse Acton endured at age twelve, noting that their stepfather, Cledith Arthur, was arrested and charged. Ramaswamy later confirmed the ad was from his campaign and defended its content. The Ohio Republican Party has not yet responded. Acton, who served as the state’s public health commissioner, has previously spoken publicly about abuse by her stepfather.
