Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem assures travelers that while the REAL ID deadline arrives Wednesday, those without compliant IDs can still fly domestically. However, they will face additional security checks. Noem stated that 81% of travelers already possess REAL ID-compliant identification, with passports and tribal IDs also accepted. While extra scrutiny is expected for non-compliant travelers, the process will be designed to remain as smooth as possible. REAL ID, recommended by the 9/11 Commission, enhances security for air travel and federal building access.
