The world's most powerful solar telescope, located atop Hawaii's Haleakalā volcano, has captured a detailed image of sunspots using its new Visible Tunable Filter (VTF). This milestone, achieved during testing, demonstrates the VTF's potential to significantly improve prediction of solar storms. These storms, caused by intense magnetic activity in sunspots, can disrupt Earth's communication and power grids.
