A software‑only, tethered jailbreak for the Nintendo Switch 2 has been released, allowing users to run arbitrary native code on any system with the latest firmware. The exploit requires a specific original Switch game to boot the system, and it uses a 32‑bit integer overflow bug in that game’s array handling to gain code execution. The jailbreak lets users mod games, run homebrew software, back up save files, and access most peripherals. In a demonstration, the developer added characters such as Peter Griffin and Hatsune Miku to Mario Kart World. Nintendo is expected to remove the required game from the eShop and patch the vulnerability soon. The discovery was aided by AI tools such as OpenAI Codex.
