Florida Poised to Ban Fluoride in Public Water

Read, Watch or Listen

Florida lawmakers passed a bill banning fluoride from public drinking water, sending it to Governor Ron DeSantis' desk for approval. If signed, Florida would become the second state to enact such a ban, reversing decades of public health practice aimed at preventing tooth decay. The ban, framed as prohibiting 'water quality additives', follows claims by state officials that fluoridation is 'public health malpractice'. Experts, however, widely support fluoridation as a significant public health achievement, citing its effectiveness in preventing cavities and minimal risks. The ban is set to take effect July 1st.
