Heavy snowfall in the French and Swiss Alps has caused significant disruption to Easter holiday travel. Tignes, France, was effectively shut down due to avalanche risk after receiving over a meter of snow, leaving thousands without power. In Switzerland, Zermatt was isolated, with roads and rail lines closed, and power and mobile networks disrupted. The Simplon Pass and Great St Bernard Tunnel were also closed, impacting travel to and from Italy. Authorities warned of avalanche risks and falling trees, leading to school closures in Sion.
