Tap title to read story
A US federal judge has ordered Trump administration officials to comply with a court order within a week or face contempt charges. The order concerns the deportation of over 200 people to El Salvador, which the judge had previously prohibited. The Trump administration has criticized the order and plans to appeal, setting up a potential showdown between the judicial and executive branches. Failure to comply could result in fines or even criminal contempt charges, though a presidential pardon could be possible for criminal offenses. The judge has given the administration options to avoid contempt, including asserting custody over the deported individuals.
