The IRS plans to cut up to 40% of its workforce, reducing its employee count from approximately 102,000 to between 60,000 and 70,000. This reduction, implemented in two phases, will begin this week with RIF notices. Taxpayer services and compliance will also face significant reductions. Approximately 20,000 employees have already accepted a deferred resignation offer.
