Tap title to read story
Pro-Palestinian student activism on US campuses is facing increased scrutiny and suppression under the Trump administration's crackdown on alleged antisemitism. Non-citizen students who participated in protests are losing visas and facing arrests, creating a climate of fear and self-censorship. The administration's actions, defended by Secretary of State Rubio, are being criticized as a 'weaponizing' of antisemitism and an assault on free speech. While some Jewish students reported antisemitic incidents during last year's protests, many students and academics dispute the broad characterization of the protests as antisemitic and highlight the chilling effect on activism. Universities are also under pressure, facing investigations and potential loss of funding.
