Trump Targets Appliance Efficiency Standards Again
Tap title to read story
Donald Trump, continuing his opposition to appliance efficiency standards, is employing indirect tactics to weaken regulations. His administration is considering terminating a Department of Energy contract with Guidehouse LLP, a move that would cripple the agency's ability to enforce standards. This action is met with concern from appliance manufacturers who fear a decline in product quality and a loss of competitiveness. Simultaneously, Trump is pursuing other avenues, including revisiting showerhead regulations and potentially weakening tankless water heater standards through the Congressional Review Act, largely benefiting Rinnai, a Japanese company. These actions, while politically motivated, risk undermining consumer savings and environmental progress.
