DORAL, Fla. — President Donald Trump on Monday urged House Republicans at their policy retreat to make passage of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act their top priority, arguing it would “guarantee the midterms” while the bill remains stalled in the Senate. He also described recent U.S. military strikes against Iran as decisive, saying the campaign will end “quickly” and claiming strikes on thousands of targets. Trump’s proposal to add mail-voting limits and transgender-related provisions prompted concern among some GOP lawmakers, who worry such measures will distract from economic messaging. Rubio demanded release of Dennis Coyle and Mahmood Habibi and warned against travel to Afghanistan. The designation follows a similar US action against Iran on February 27 and uses an executive blacklist created in September. Afghan authorities called the move regrettable and denied detaining foreigners for ransom. The designation aims to increase diplomatic pressure and penalties on Taliban authorities.
