San Diego. Tony Vitello recorded his first major-league managerial victory Monday at Petco Park as the San Francisco Giants defeated the San Diego Padres 3-2, then received a traditional postgame beer shower and a ride in a laundry cart from his players.

The celebratory ritual drew player comments including Matt Chapman and a champagne presentation by Willy Adames; Vitello, who previously won 341 games at Tennessee, addressed reporters barefoot and urged continued competitive play as the team looks to build momentum this week.

Oklahoma City: On Monday night, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 47 points to lead the Thunder to a 114-110 overtime win against the Detroit Pistons, extending his streak of at least 20 points to 136 games and powering Oklahoma City to its 60th victory this season.

The result left the Thunder atop the Western Conference and strengthened Gilgeous-Alexander’s MVP case; Detroit, missing multiple starters due to injuries, remained competitive, and on Tuesday Jalen Duren scored 31 as the Pistons later clinched the Central Division with a 127-116 win.

Phoenix — At the NFL's league meetings this week, Commissioner Roger Goodell said Tuesday he has no plans to end the 23-year-old Rooney Rule after Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier sent a letter last week asserting the policy violates Florida law.

Goodell said the league believes the Rooney Rule is consistent with the law and will engage with Florida officials; Atlanta Falcons GM Ian Cunningham said Monday he will be intentional about promoting diversity, while the AG demanded by May 1 that the NFL stop enforcing the rule on Florida teams.

SEATTLE. Cal Raleigh delivered a walk-off single down the right-field line Monday night at T-Mobile Park, giving the Seattle Mariners a 2-1 victory over the New York Yankees; Luis Castillo threw six scoreless innings and recorded his 1,500th career strikeout in the game.

The loss dropped New York to 3-1 and followed a three-game sweep of the Giants; manager Aaron Boone cited limited offense. On Tuesday, Max Fried pitched seven shutout innings in a 5-0 win, reinforcing the Yankees' early-season pitching strength and shifting momentum in their favor.

LOS ANGELES. The Cleveland Guardians beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2 on Monday as Parker Messick tossed six scoreless innings and Cleveland scored three runs in the seventh; Dodgers' offense managed two ninth-inning runs but fell short, ending Los Angeles' 3-0 season start.

The loss ended the Dodgers' early unbeaten run and left questions about Roki Sasaki's command despite his 99.5 mph fastball and a new cutter; Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Sasaki can build confidence from this start as the team evaluates rotation decisions this week.

Los Angeles — On Monday night LeBron James recorded a triple-double as the Lakers defeated the Washington Wizards 120-101 while Luka Dončić served a one-game suspension stemming from a recent technical foul, a performance that tied James’ franchise-era wins milestone and reinforced the Lakers’ late-season form.

The win maintained Los Angeles’ momentum and, although a Suns victory initially delayed a formal division clinch, Phoenix’s subsequent loss to Orlando this week allowed the Lakers to secure the Pacific Division and a playoff berth, and they reached 50 wins with a Tuesday victory over Cleveland.

Miami — Tyler Herro scored 30 points and Bam Adebayo added 23 points with 16 rebounds as the Miami Heat rallied with a 14-0 run to beat the Philadelphia 76ers 119-109 on Monday night, keeping Miami at 40-36 and in ninth place in the Eastern Conference.

Orlando — Desmond Bane scored 21 and Jalen Suggs contributed 20, eight rebounds and seven assists as the Orlando Magic held off the Phoenix Suns 115-111 on Tuesday; Devin Booker scored 34 for Phoenix, while the wins and performances shaped immediate standings and team momentum.

Washington — On March 31, 2026, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed legislation officially designating Palm Beach International Airport as "President Donald J. Trump International Airport," a bill that state lawmakers passed to rename the facility near Trump’s Mar‑a‑Lago resort.

The change is scheduled to take effect July 1, 2026, pending completion of rights agreements and FAA administrative updates; officials and Eric Trump announced the move on social media while state budget proposals include funding for signage and rebranding.

Washington: A federal judge on Tuesday ordered the Trump administration to suspend work on the $400 million White House ballroom project after the National Trust for Historic Preservation sued, finding the group is likely to succeed on claims that the president lacked statutory authority for the demolition and construction.

The injunction pauses construction immediately and was stayed for 14 days to permit appeal; the administration has cited security upgrades and military facility work while preservationists seek congressional authorization and additional reviews, and legal and legislative actions are expected this week.

Miami — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill on Monday to rename Palm Beach International Airport the President Donald J. Trump International Airport, and President Trump posted digital renderings the same day for a proposed Miami skyscraper to house his presidential library.

The renaming is set to take effect July 1, though the Federal Aviation Administration said it does not approve name changes; the library designs, credited to Bermello Ajamil, follow a gift of nearly three acres from Miami Dade College and a website opened to solicit donations this week.
