Long Beach, California — Alex Palou won the Grand Prix of Long Beach on Sunday, April 19, 2026, driving the No. 10 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda to a 3.9663-second victory over Felix Rosenqvist. Rosenqvist had earned the pole on Saturday with a 1:07.463 lap in the No. 60 Meyer Shank Racing Acura, leading the race for 51 laps before surrendering the lead.

The outcome moved Palou into the NTT IndyCar Series points lead, aided by a faster pit stop during the race's only caution. Teams and broadcasters, including FOX and INDYCAR Radio, scheduled postrace coverage Sunday evening; Meyer Shank Racing and Chip Ganassi Racing cited pit crew performance and strategy as decisive factors in immediate postrace comments.

Baton Rouge — LSU teams produced mixed outcomes this week across multiple sports, including a 4-3 women's tennis upset over top-seeded Oklahoma on April 18 that advanced the Tigers to the SEC semifinals, a 7-2 baseball loss to Texas A&M, a softball series sweep of Ole Miss, and ongoing recruiting attention for a top Texas running back.

The tennis win secures a semifinal berth and program momentum this weekend, while the baseball defeat leaves LSU 23-17 overall and facing a series finale Sunday; softball reaches .500 in SEC play after the sweep and now prepares for a road series, and recruiters continue to monitor Landen Williams-Callis amid offers from Power Five programs.

Arlington, Va. — Voters in Virginia held a special election this Tuesday to decide whether to approve an amendment allowing the General Assembly to adopt temporary congressional districts ahead of the upcoming midterm elections. Early voting ended over the weekend, and state officials reported turnout figures would be critical on Election Day.

If approved, the proposed map could shift the state's U.S. House delegation composition, with analysts projecting the plan might produce as many as ten Democratic-held seats; Republicans and the RNC have criticized the proposal and filed legal challenges. Officials said certification and court review would follow in the days and weeks after the vote.

PHOENIX. On Saturday night Corbin Carroll hit a fourth-career grand slam in the eighth inning, breaking a tie and sending the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 6-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays at Chase Field. Ildemaro Vargas led off the eighth with a single extending his hitting streak to 17 games, and Juan Morillo worked in relief.

The win gave Arizona a fourth straight victory and clinched the series this weekend; it also improved the team's early-season record and momentum. Max Scherzer completed six innings for Toronto with five hits allowed, while Zac Gallen and a defensive miscue earlier in the game were noted; Lourdes Gurriel rejoined Arizona's lineup after an ACL tear.

Cincinnati: FC Cincinnati scored twice inside the final 15 minutes Saturday to force a 3-3 draw with the visiting Chicago Fire at TQL Stadium, with Evander converting a penalty in the 79th minute and an own-goal by Chicago's Dje D'Avilla in the 86th minute completing the comeback in MLS play.

Chicago, which led 3-1 after Hugo Cuypers scored twice and Philip Zinckernagel added a penalty, remained unbeaten in four but saw its three-match winning streak end on Saturday; Chris Brady made eight saves, Roman Celentano recorded three saves for Cincinnati, and the result left Cincinnati at 2-4-2 with eight points.

Las Vegas — Cody Rhodes defeated Randy Orton to retain the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 42 at Allegiant Stadium on Saturday night, in a match that began with Pat McAfee accompanying Orton and striking Rhodes with a microphone. Rhodes cleared McAfee from ringside, placed him on the announce table and allowed Jelly Roll to hit an elbow drop; McAfee was then carried out on a stretcher.

After the match finally began, Rhodes worked Orton’s back for much of the bout while the two traded blows and countered finishers, including multiple RKO and Cross Rhodes exchanges. A bled-open Orton and a referee knocked out by an RKO contributed to chaotic late moments, with McAfee momentarily returning to count a near fall before Orton RKO’d him. Rhodes ultimately hit the Cross Rhodes and pinned Orton, but Orton seized the title post-match, struck Rhodes with the belt and finished the night with a punt to Rhodes' head.

PHILADELPHIA — Chris Sale struck out seven in seven innings Saturday night and the Atlanta Braves capitalized on a third-inning defensive error by Phillies second baseman Edmundo Sosa to score three unearned runs, overcoming Felix Reyes' first-inning home run to beat the Philadelphia Phillies 3-1 at Citizens Bank Park in front of a home crowd.

Philadelphia's loss extended their slide: the Phillies have dropped nine of 12 games and four straight at home, while the Braves improved to a multi-game win streak and clinched the series with one game remaining. J.T. Realmuto exited with lower back tightness, and Atlanta's Robert Suarez recorded the save Saturday night.

PAXTON, Ill. — After more than 50 years, the Paxton Community Nursery School will close at the end of the 2025–26 school year because of sustained enrollment declines and budget shortfalls. The school's board said enrollment began falling about a decade ago as new preschools opened in the area, numbers dropped further during the COVID-19 pandemic, and registration fell to the low 40s. The board also cited a loss of long-time staff in 2023 and reduced programming: by 2025 the school had cut classes to a single daily session.

During the recent period of struggle the board shrank to two members while trying to recruit staff and students; registration declined roughly 20–30% year to year, fundraising fell as families decreased, and the projected budget deficit for 2026–27 was expected to be nearly three times larger than the current year. All six board members later voted unanimously to close and dissolve the nonprofit. Board President Sam Magers thanked supporters, noting PCNS served more than 2,500 families over its history and operated first in the United Methodist Church basement and later in the Paxton Park District building.

New York, New York. This week Rosen Law Firm issued a series of investor notices via Markets Insider and Newsfile reminding shareholders of pending securities class actions and investigations involving Alight, Corcept, Coty, PennyMac and PayPal, and announcing lead plaintiff motion deadlines occurring between April 20 and May 22, 2026.

The notices state class periods for each company, provide case submission URLs and contact details, and advise investors they may be eligible for compensation through contingency-fee representation. Rosen cited a January 29, 2026 SEC Form 8-K for PennyMac and instructed investors to file or move to serve as lead plaintiff by specified April–May 2026 deadlines.

Boston — Defending champion Sharon Lokedi will start the 130th Boston Marathon in Hopkinton on Monday, joined by reigning men's champion John Korir and a field of more than 30,000 runners. This week organizers cited cool temperatures and an expected tailwind, conditions that could favor fast finishing times and influence pacing strategies.

Race officials and local law enforcement reiterated safety and logistical plans this weekend as competitors assembled and Connecticut runners boarded shuttles to Boston. Lokedi said this week she is uncertain whether she will chase another record; the race is scheduled to begin at 9:05 a.m. Monday and weather and timing will be monitored closely.
